Dante’s Inferno


When I found out Dante’s Inferno was being made at EA I was working there in the Sims division. Having always been a fan of Wayne Barlowe’s Inferno, I decided to go upstairs and do a little unsolicited concept art to help push the character designs away from the cliche and traditional demons and corpses of gothic horror.
I think chaotic anatomy can be horrific but creating an otherworldly order is even more upsetting. Big messy monsters are like splatterfest movies – more funny than scary.
Inhuman with a purpose and utterly non-negotiable seems more scary to me.
